Rainy Season Retreat p.411

Could you tell of a time in your life when you could equate with the

effect of the rainy season?

Could be from childhood to now, short period or long, illness, hospital stay, holiday, changing environment?

.

Rainy season quiet, not worldly, nature, stillness, insulated from the rest of the world, cocoon of silence.

What do you think about a solitary retreat?  What fears, aversions etc?

Would you make a commitment to going on a retreat?

What are the resistances?

What do you think stops you from going on retreat?

Before meditation we read from Nanamoli’s Life of the Buddha - a piece on the rainy season

Long Weekend Retreat

Mantra and Meditation

  5 to 8 March 2010

The retreat will be exploring connections between the voice and body, silence and sound, meditation and mantra.

"Mantra" means "to protect the mind", and is an important part of Buddhist meditation and devotional practice. Chanting, internally or externally, helps us to focus the mind and deepen our faith.

Led by Suryagita, an experienced teacher of the Alexander Technique and voice work, who will be visiting Melbourne from New Zealand.

The weekend is suitable for those with at least some knowledge of Buddhism and experience of our meditation practices (mindfulness of breathing and metta bhavana).
